Through needle and thread, Mujeres Tejedoras is a group of creative women who are coming together to learn artistry, to unlearn the societal beliefs that limit women, to experience the power of unity, and to create something positive to give back to their community.
From an impoverished neighborhood on the Caribbean coast of Santa Marta, Colombia called La Lucha ("The struggle"), this group of single mothers started working together during our SWIET 2019 #empowARTment program.
Seeing the incredible collaborative #artWORK opportunities, the Mujeres Tejedoras created their own brand called Hecho en La Lucha (Made in La Lucha), and even opened their own workshop space in 2020!
Now, Hecho en La Lucha offers handmade, bio-secure and fashionable face masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19, with a buy one//donate one business model so they can provide protective masks to people in need in their community. They are also developing other products like reusable menstrual pads, diapers, and a line of clutch purses.
